This Week's Picks: First weekend of Jazzfest boasts The Boss, Beach Boys, Petty, Bon Iver, Feist...
Monday, April 23

FeistIt may sound redundant that New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival continues to top itself every year, but in the case of the 2012 edition, it's certainly true once again. That's because the festivities start out with one of the most anticipated reunion tours of all time on Friday night via The Beach Boys' 50th anniversary (complete with Brian Wilson behind his trusty keyboard). Other sure fire sets include indie rock favorites Bon Iver and Gomez, plus the roots reggae sounds of Steel Pulse and the Afrobeat explosions of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80.

Bon IverThe highlight reel continues at full steam on Saturday, thanks in part to the always incendiary headliners Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, who play opposite the generally alluring chanteuse Feist. Additional variety comes courtesy of showstopper Cee Lo Green, sax man Dave Koz, golden oldie Bobby Rush, plus plenty of the Crescent City's most diverse soul, gospel, zydeco and blues bands.

The BossThe first weekend also wraps up with a bang courtesy of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, who scores an extended two-and-a-half-hour headlining slot. The Boss' stadium-shaking sounds are preceded by local legend Dr. John, though there are also plenty of reasons to come out early, including Al Green, Janelle Monae, Iron & Wine, Yolanda Adams and Cowboy Mouth, assuring a little bit of something for virtually everyone. Friday, April 27-Sunday, April 29 at Fair Grounds Race Course:
