This Week's Picks:
Red hot rock show, Dance to the DJ and 50 years of fun, fun, fun
Monday, May 21, 2012
50 years of fun, fun, fun: The Beach Boys brand is no stranger to the road, but this year marks a monumental reunion between all its key survivors. For the first time in over 20 years and in celebration of the group's 50th anniversary, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks reunite on the road, but taking a surfin' safari through the past isn't the only item on the agenda. The group also promises a few tunes from the forthcoming That's Why God Made the Radio (Capitol), which once again packs plenty of fun in the sun. Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22 at Chicago Theatre: www.thechicagotheatre.com.
Dance to the DJ: One of the hottest DJs in the studio is also one of today's top international touring attractions. Chances are David Guetta will spin out the jams well into the wee hours, especially now that his resume of collaborations is a mile long. A few of his recent tag teams include Nicki Minaj, Flo-Rida and Usher, all of whom are likely to pop up in his playlist. Friday, May 25 at Congress Theater: www.congresspubliccenter.com.
Red Hot rock show: Fresh off its Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and in advance of headlining Lollapalooza, Red Hot Chili Peppers show up for an arena-sized romp through last year's I'm With You (Warner Brothers). Rev up for a night of funk-flavored alternative rock with tunes from that tenth studio CD, plus hits from the previous two-and-a-half decades of underground innovation. Monday, May 28 at Allstate Arena: www.jamusa.com.
