Milwaukee Summerfest heats up: For its 45th year, Milwaukee's Summerfest isn't just one of the Midwest's top concert going destinations, but it's statistically the world's largest musical festival. Besides spanning 11 days from the rising sun to the wee hours, the marathon event boasts several stages that highlight headliners, emerging artists, plus pretty much every genre imaginable.
While it's often difficult to choose between the top talent, there are some major standouts at Marcus Amphitheater, starting Thursday, June 28 with alternative rock favorites Foo Fighters, who will be joined by Silversun Pickups. Fast forward to Sunday, July 1, and The Beach Boys are sure to turn in summer's ultimate party, cruising through 50 years of hits with all the surviving key members (Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks). Also worth considering is Saturday, July 7 when rock n' roll veterans Aerosmith roll into Brew City with Illinois' power pop heroes Cheap Trick.
Even the side stages have plenty to boast about thanks to The Avett Borthers, Death Cab For Cutie, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Walsh, The Roots, David Gray, Ben Folds Five, Sublime With Rome, The B-52's, Common, Mayer Hawthorne, The Walkmen, Skillet, Robyn and Squeeze (to name a few of literally hundreds). Catch the complete line-up on Summerfest's continuously expanding website, which also allows fans to customize their schedules for what's sure to be the season's one stop concert shop.
Wednesday, June 27-Sunday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 3-Sunday, July 8 at Milwaukee's Henry Maier Festival Park: www.summerfest.com.
