Mary J. teams with D'Angelo, progressive rock revived, plus a double bill of the blues
Monday, September 10, 2012

Mary J. Blige Mary J. Blige Mary J. Blige Mary J. Blige
Mary J. teams with D'Angelo: The "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul" Mary J. Blige may reign supreme on one of the hottest R&B tours of the year, but bill mate D'Angelo is sure to garner equal attention. The previously reclusive neo-soul singer/multi-instrumentalist comes out of hibernation after a dozen year break from the studio and stage, dusting off signature songs like "Lady" and "Brown Sugar," plus previews from the forthcoming CD "James River." Thursday, September 13 at United Center: www.ticketmaster.com.

Rush Rush Rush
Progressive rock revived: The five year break between Rush's studio albums have been anything but stagnant, as evidenced by the band's cross continental "Time Machine" tour where the group played its classic "Moving Pictures" in its entirety. If anything, that exercise helped the Canadian trio tap back into its stadium shaking progressive rock roots, which coupled with a conceptual lyrical premise, suggests fans will have plenty to sink their teeth into throughout the current "Clockwork Angels" tour. Saturday, September 15 at United Center: www.ticketmaster.com.

Buddy Guy Buddy Guy Buddy Guy Buddy Guy
A double bill of the blues: Even though he just turned 76, Buddy Guy doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon, releasing the studio CD "Living Proof" in 2010 and finalizing his highly anticipated memoirs "When I Left Home" earlier this year. His buddy in the blues Jonny Lang might be a mere 31, but clearly respects old school heroes like Guy as he pledges to introduce the fading genre to younger generations. Saturday, September 15 at Chicago Theatre: www.thechicagotheatre.com.
