Madonna Madonna Madonna Madonna
All hail her Madgesty: Starting with her age-defying performance at the Super Bowl, followed by the chart-topping new album "MDNA," 2012 is truly becoming the year of Madonna. Her international dates practically sold out in seconds, garnering rave reviews and attracting plenty of controversy, which is sure to carry over towards a pair of Chicago shows. Though the set list is likely to be stocked high with recent tunes, she appears to be sprinkling in several dance floor favorites like "Papa Don't Preach," "Express Yourself" and "Vogue." Wednesday, September 19 and Thursday, September 20 at United Center: www.ticketmaster.com.

John Mayall John Mayall John Mayall John Mayall
Bluesbreakers' legendary leader: Given the amount of famous faces that made their way through John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, the legendary leader sometimes gets unjustifiably overshadowed. Nonetheless, it needs to be noted that the now 78-year-old axe-slinger was the man in charge of Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green and John McVie (amongst many others) as they passed through his band before their own breakthroughs. This headlining show from Mayall and his current backers promises highlights spanning 50 years and over 60 albums of seminal British blues. Tuesday, September 18 at Mayne Stage: www.maynestage.com and Wednesday, September 19 at Viper Alley: www.viper-alley.com.

Blur singer revives Womack: It's a shame Bobby Womack's name isn't on the tip of more people's tongues, though with recent Gorillaz collaborations and being covered by Patrick Stump, at least that umbrella is expanding. In fact, that former act's Damon Albarn seems to be on a personal quest to re-introduce the soul legend discovered by Sam Cooke (who also wrote for Wilson Pickett and The Rolling Stones) to the public at large, and with his co-production on Womack's first entirely original project in 18 years ("The Bravest Man In The Universe"), it's certainly a step in the right direction. Sunday, September 23 at Riverfront Theater: www.riverfronttheater.com.
