Mann meets a solo Leo, a double decker ska reunion, funk it up with The Time and more
Monday, November 12, 2012

Aimee Mann Aimee Mann Aimee Mann Aimee Mann Aimee Mann

Mann meets a solo Leo: After making such a splash in her solo career, it's easy to overlook the fact that Aimee Mann was once the front woman for 'Til Tuesday. Every once in awhile she'll dust off an old group favorite in concert, though this particular outing revolves around the extraordinary singer/songwriter effort "Charmer" (SuperEgo). Opener Ted Leo may still be going strong with his backing band The Pharmacists, but given the understated nature of this tour, turns in a rare solo set. Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15 at Park West: www.jamusa.com.

A double decker ska reunion: The wave of ska revivalists may have simmered at the close of the '90s, but it continues to exist on the underground to equally fevered degrees. Chances are fans will come from all across America for a double decker reunion show featuring Ska Against Racism Tour alums Five Iron Frenzy and longtime Motor City pals The Insyderz, who both promise an evening of horn-infused fury. Saturday, November 17 at Riviera Theatre: www.jamusa.com.

Morris Day & The Time Morris Day & The Time Morris Day & The Time Morris Day & The Time

Funk it up with The Time and more: With memories of Prince's three night residency in Chicago still flying high, it's the perfect time to stage the Doug Banks Fantastic Funk Jam. In fact, the Purple One's proteges Morris Day & The Time are down to bring plenty of "Jungle Love" and dancing to "The Bird," alongside the equally formidable Cameo and Steve Arrington (of Slave fame). Saturday, November 17 at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino: www.thevenuechicago.com.
