Green Day rescheduled, Badu at HOB, plus Cave's back with The Black Seeds
Monday, March 25, 2013
Green Day rescheduled: Apparently Billie Joe Armstrong is over the personal demons that caused him to postpone Green Day's tour at the tip of 2013, which means the band is back in business leading the pop/punk charge. Granted, the trio's been pounding out catchy power chords over politically-charged lyrics for over 20 years, but as a trio of new CDs "Uno," "Dos" and "Tre" can attest to, the veterans remain just as relevant as the day they debuted. Thursday, March 28 at Allstate Arena: www.jamusa.com.
Badu at HOB: One of the most colorful personalities in all of neo-soul also happens to be one of the most engaging, even if she's been somewhat unpredictable in the past. On this particular tour, Erykah Badu promises a front to back rendering of her 1997 breakthrough "Baduizm," known for serving up a practically perfect blend of R&B, funk, jazz and a little bit of old school soul. Thursday, March 28 at House of Blues: www.livenation.com.
Cave's back with The Bad Seeds: For the first time in five years, Nick Cave is returning to The Bad Seeds following a groundbreaking stint fronting the blues rock experiment Grinderman. Even though The Bad Seeds' new project "Push the Sky Away" isn't exactly as ferocious as its precursor, the Aussie alternative rocker is still one of the most distinguished singer/songwriters of all time backed by an endlessly enthralling band. Monday, April 1 at Chicago Theatre: www.thechicagotheatre.com.
