Bonamassa's got the blues, need to see Needtobreathe and old school soul times two
Monday, April 29, 2013

Joe Bonamassa Joe Bonamassa Joe Bonamassa Joe Bonamassa

Bonamassa's got the blues: It would be impressive enough for Joe Bonamassa to rattle off a resume that includes collaborations with B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Paul Rodgers and Vince Gill, but add in an acclaimed solo career and simultaneous time in Black Country Communion, and the guitar slinger is truly a force to be reckoned with. The bluesy rock n' roller puts the focus on tunes from 2012's "Driving Towards The Daylight," though more than any particular song, the real star of the show is the 35-year-old's ferocious six string skillfulness. Wednesday, May 1 at Chicago Theatre:

Needtobreathe Needtobreathe Needtobreathe Needtobreathe

Need to see Needtobreathe: After being plucked out of relative obscurity and highlighted as a support act alongside Taylor Swift on tour, Needtobreathe quickly became a household name of its own. The southern-stoked alternative rockers from South Carolina always put on a smoldering show, but also be sure to show up early for a glimpse of rootsy indie rockers Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors. Thursday, May 2 at Riviera Theatre:

The Whispers The Whispers The Whispers

Old school soul times two: Few R&B acts have stood the test of time like The Whispers, though even after nearly fifty years in business, songs like "And the Beat Goes On" and "Rock Steady" still groove with soulful sophistication. The same can be said about The Temptations Review, which features Dennis Edwards showcasing his years as the original act's lead singer (1968-1977, 1980-1984, 1987-1989), alongside many more Motown memories. Friday, May 3 at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino:

Music sounds better when you're lounging on a Comfy Supersac!
