Murphy does Bauhaus, Maniacs' melodic jangle pop and Rundgren lends a helping hand

Murphy does Bauhaus: As a solo artist, Peter Murphy is certainly no slouch, but his most celebrated period is certainly leading the charge for Bauhaus. On the "Mr. Moonlight" tour, the former front man puts the set list's focus entirely on those gothic greats in honor of its 35th anniversary. While that decision is sure to bring plenty of die-hards back from the dead, an entirely new generation gets the chance to hear classics like "Bela Lugosi's Dead," "She's In Parties" and "In The Flat Field" in all their brooding glory. Thursday, May 16 at House of Blues: www.livenation.com.

Maniacs' melodic jangle pop: On the heels of its 30th anniversary, 10,000 Maniacs just released the brand new studio release "Music From The Motion Picture." The project marks its first full-length of entirely new material in 14 years, which coupled with a celebrated past that includes an extraordinary cover of Patti Smith's "Because The Night," promises an evening of sophisticated jangle pop. Friday, May 17 at City Winery: www.citywinery.com/chicago.

Todd Rundgren Todd Rundgren Todd Rundgren Todd Rundgren

Rundgren lends a helping hand: After being steeped in the blues for several years, Hope Fest 2013 turns to Todd Rundgren for an up close and personal concert benefiting the Chicago Coalition For The Homeless. In addition to supporting the worthwhile cause, catch tunes off Rundgren's brand new project "State," a rock, soul and electronic odyssey crafted in the troubadour's irreverent tradition. Sunday, May 19 at Park West: www.chicagohomeless.org.
