Butler trio returns, Keb' kicks out the blues, plus Crosby goes solo
Monday, February 3, 2013
Butler trio returns: For the first time in four years, John Butler Trio is turning in the immensely anticipated studio album "Flesh & Blood" (Vanguard Records). The collection marks the multi-platinum group's sixth overall effort and continues in the Aussie act's grooved-based, rock n' blues/bluegrass tradition, which always leaps to life on the concert stage. Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 at Vic Theatre: www.jamusa.com.
Keb' kicks out the blues: It may be tucked away on the College of DuPage campus, but the McAninch Arts Center always boasts an impressive line-up, as evidenced by this year's season opener starring Keb' Mo'. The triple Grammy Award winner is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of his WC Handy Award-winning self-titled debut, but also promises new tunes in a career spanning set showcasing the many sides of this modern day Delta blues great. Saturday, February 8 at McAninch Arts Center: http://home.cod.edu/atthemac/.
Crosby goes solo: For the first time in 20 years, David Crosby hit the studio under his own name to deliver the aptly titled "Croz." Though he's sure to play several selections from the easygoing singer/songwriter collection, there's also going to be old solo material, coupled with cuts from his days in The Byrds, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and several of its offshoot incarnations. Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9 at City Winery: www.citywinery.com/chicago/.
