Find out if Lorde is royal, two unplugged punk powerhouses, plus Garfunkel's solo tour
Monday, March 17, 2014
Find out if Lorde is royal: She was the goddess of the Grammy Awards and steadily ruled the radio since last summer, but can Lorde cut it in concert? Find out during this highly sought after show when the 17-year-old singer/songwriter from New Zealand promises to sing "Royals," "Team," "Glory and Gore" and other eclectic indie pop from 2013's breakout album "Pure Heroine." Tuesday, March 18 at Aragon Ballroom: www.livenation.com.
Two unplugged punk powerhouses: Take Glen Matlock, original bassist for The Sex Pistols, and match him with Sylvain Sylvain, longtime guitarist for the New York Dolls, and it's truly a tour made in punk heaven. However, there's a twist on the standard formula this time through as each trailblazer is slated to unplug their instruments for a stripped down but no doubt still raucous flashback saluting two of the genre's preeminent pioneers. Thursday, March 20 at City Winery: www.citywinery.com/chicago/.
Garfunkel's solo tour: His longtime musical partner Paul Simon may currently be on the road with Sting, but that gives Art Garfunkel all the more reason to celebrate his latest solo retrospective "The Singer" with a rare club tour. Besides dusting off individual classics like "All I Know" and "I Only Have Eyes For You," no evening would be complete without a few Simon & Garfunkel chestnuts that continue to influence pretty much every singer/songwriter of any style to this very day. Saturday, March 22 at Park West: www.jamusa.com.
