Review and photos by Mary Andrews Ellie Goulding hit the stage in Phoenix just one day after her triumphant appearance at the Coachella music festival and Ms. Goulding is touring the US promoting her latest studio album release Delirium. This was a grand production flaunting male dancers, ample lighting in the background and foreground, and large video screens on the back and side of the stage projecting unique images the complimented her performance.Let's not minimize Goulding's immense talent. Within the first tree songs, she was dancing complicated choreography and playing drums as well as singing. By the fourth song she was playing guitar. She has an amazing and unique voice and her control is flawless. It was obvious that there was little she would not do to please the packed house. The mixed crowd created so many sing-a-longs from the very beginning of the set that even Goulding remarked through the deafening screams, "The reason I like touring here is there is such a special kind of energy. I don't know how much you know about British people. They are quite reserved, quite shy generally. And also Europe too. So, I like coming over here and performing for you guys because it is always so friendly and smiling. And also, you know songs they don't know. For example, the next song I'm going to play for you, if I play this in England where I come from, no one would know it. Quite a few of you will know this song." The acoustic arrangement of "Lights" was met with a loud chorus from the crowd. The pace of the set continually changed throughout the evening vacillating between her up-tempo tunes with slow acoustic songs, but what did not change were Ellie Goulding's ultimate showmanship and her commitment to make everyone an intimate part of the show. This tour continues through June 2016. Check out information on the Delirium Tour. |
