Jewel Jewel

Story and Photos by Phil Bonyata

Today's pop sex kitten made an appearance at Milwaukee's Marcus Amphitheater last night. Clad in a skin tight black top and bandana atop her head which hid her blonde mane, Jewel looked like a sexy housewife that just got done waxing the kitchen floor.
The Alaskan native's casual folk / rock set was neither inspiring or even very entertaining. Play the hits collect the money. Jewel played all the crowd favorites like "Who Will Save Your Soul," "Foolish Games" and "You Were Meant For Me" which came off almost as exact, yet slightly distorted, carbon copies of the recorded versions.
Jewel's claim to fame is a seductively sexy body combined with a charming young voice that anybody over 35 might recall as very similar to another pop sex kitten of the early '70s - Melody. Not ironically, her career as a star lasted only a couple of years then fell into obscurity.
