It seems weird, but the Jonas Brothers, who once were lucky enough to open for Hannah Montana, are now bigger headliners as Miley Cyrus tries to depart from her Disney Channel alter ego. Jonas Brothers tickets are the top concert tickets on sale right now according to secondary ticket market industry web site Ticket News. Meanwhile Miley Cyrus is not even in the top ten. This is a remarkable change from just a couple of years ago when pre-teen fans were far too agitated and motivated and immediately sold out all her concerts along the Best of Both Worlds Tour. Some experts have attributed Cyrus's demise to her insistence on using paperless tickets. Others have referenced the detriment of scalping her concert tickets online. Still, other experts have stated that touring without the backing of Disney has hurt her. The prediction that her music career is over  after one bad tour seems to be a little bit over the top. She is still a very young artist and this transition from a preteen audience to a more adult (or at least young adult) audience is going to be difficult. Just as being a teenager and finding acceptance as an adult is difficult, so is the transformation from a Disney audience to a long lasting one.I think part of the reason for these dire predictions is that Miley Cyrus's rise was so abrupt. She has never had to struggle with yearning and fighting for success and the sudden availability of Miley Cyrus tickets is incomprehensible to those who remember her from just a year ago. She seems to have two choices. She can take the dive and try and tantalize her audience like Britney Spears did with ...Baby One More Time or she can take the road many female pop artists uncomfortable with selling their bodies take, country. The Britney route will sell plenty of concert tickets and albums. Sex has and will always sell, whether you are attracting teenage girls who want to be sexy or teenage boys who want to have sex. The country route can work. An artist does not have to end up like Jessica Simpson, tearing apart football teams and playing state fairs. Miley could use her friendship with Taylor Swift and her family background to become a respected country singer. She must make the decision soon though. She is 16 right now and probably has two years to take control of her career. Otherwise a waning audience will decide her fate, leaving her lucky to play on Taylor Swift tickets as an opening act. |
