Review and photos by Mary Andrews This was the last day of the 2014 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. There is always a little feeling of sadness as the last day comes to an end. This year has been very busy. The decision to see Arcade Fire was a particularly good one.Glen David Andrews started the day at the Congo Square Stage with his riveting, righteous delivery that got the crowd on their feet ready to testify. He played the trombone as well as sang. His trip to the audience to give some love during the set pleased everyone. Acura Stage was hosting Ian Neville's set with his band Dumpstaphunk. Art Neville known to all as Poppa Funk was the set's special guest, slipping behind a second organ about a half-hour into the show. Presence of Cyril and Ivan Neville made this a true family affair. All together the set was a rockin’ introduction for Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire’s set began with a dozen people dancing onto the stage in a conga line wearing oversized paper mache masks. Two of the masks portrayed President Obama and Pope Francis. During the second song, Win Butler the lead-singer, ran into the crowd the first time. The 90-minute set Arcade Fire delved through a set list of their hits. "Here Comes The Night Time," “Neighborhood No. 3" and “Rebellion (Lies)" are examples. For a complete set list see below Win Butler was the consummate entertainer during the show. He sported white pants and a baseball jersey with “enemy" written across the front. On the back of the jersey was a target. It was unclear what the message was there. Regardless the show was high-energy entertainment provided by everyone in the band. The show ended with Win Butler grabbing a megaphone and jumping into the crowd again playing “Iko Iko." Everyone bearing witness was ecstatic.
