Phoenix had an escape plan from the blistering 110 degrees heat when Fitz and the Tantrums with Zella Day played a raucous show and packed the house to a wild group of fans!

Zella Day opened the show like a woman possessed and she escalated that passion as her set progressed! Ms. Day is originally from Pine Top, AZ. She moved to Los Angeles about three years ago to give her career a boost. Her riveting cover of Stevie Nicks' "Rhiannon" was a showstopper! She will be joining Michael Franti's tour next month.

Fitz and the Tantrums originally from LA, formed in 2008, and became known for radio hits like "Out of my League" and "HandClap." The band is: Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs on vocals, James King on saxophone, Joseph Karnes on bass, Jeremy Ruzumna on the keyboard, and John Wicks on drums. Each member has so much talent and are like pieces to a puzzle connecting the musical landscape throughout the show.

Their third album, Fitz and the Tantrums, was released in June. It is the inspiration for the present tour. The album has been criticized for abandoning their soul inspired songs for a more electronic dance style of music. Eight of the 18 songs in the set are from this album. The rest of the songs are from their two previous records and the mix of songs were very satisfying.

The crowds' feet were moving to the infectious songs from the beginning of the set till the climactic finish. There was no sitting or standing still for this performance!

Noelle should be billed as the co-leader of the band since she is such a large part of the performance. She is not just a back-up singer, She is right up there with Fitz and her electrifying stage presence was mesmerizing. She also seemed to have the biggest microphone in the business. This was a sweat-drenched evening of pure pleasure and the collective energy could power a small city!
