Chicago native Twista was billed as the world's fastest rapper by the Guinness Book Of World Records more than a decade ago. He is so crystal clear in his rapid-fire delivery that he would make even the best auctioneer green with envy. Shortening his name from Tung Twista to Twista awhile ago - his entourage pumped the hoped up crowd with ubiquitous cheerleading - "c'mon the left side is louder than the right. C'mon, c'mon wave your hands in the air!" This ritual, while seemingly pretty stale still seems to fire up the crowd.
Opening with his breakthrough song "Adreneline Rush" Twista whipped the crowd into a sea of kangaroos. As the momentum slowly built - Twista nailed the lyrics with bullett piercing speed. The circus tinged music only highlighted the multi-syllable per second delivery. Sporting an oversized white hoody and enough diamonds to blind a laser detector. Twista is a natural on stage with his bountiful gyrations and stop motion poses. On "Ride With Me" he asked "Who's my hardcore fans out there? Who's been with me from the beginning?" The answer? Everybody, of course. Twista's sexual politics are obvious. He digs them hoez and he tattoos them all over his lyrics. The toxic beat found it's spaces between Twista's busted-up, but mounting delivery.
The machine-gun man slowed it down a bit to pay homage to two of the most influential rappers of all time. Biggie and Tupac. Nailing a pimped-out version of Tupac's "Hail Mary." The tone got mellower with "Overnight Celebrity" with Twista emphasizing the lyrical content to the delight of the ladies in the audience. This is for all the detractors of rap. Listen to Twista's poetic lyrics and unique style with an open mind and you will surely appreciate one of the modern innovators of the genre.
