The Rock and Roll Express Tour has been crisscrossing the country all summer and Tuscon the final stop of the tour. 3 Doors Down and Collective Soul brought their best foot forward with their many hits songs that gave fans a time travel machine back to the '90s.

Collective Soul's Ed Roland gave fans a fiery performance as he was determined wake the crowd up and get fans in a party groove for the rest of the night. Roland's infectious high-octane energy level succeeded and made it impossible to sit down. Roland should give a course in showmanship and audience connection. He was constantly reaching out to the fans as he performed. He plays keyboards, guitar, as well as vocals. He was in constant motion throughout the set.

Dean Roland on rhythm guitar, Will Turpin on bass, Jesse Triplett on lead guitar and Johnny Rabb on drums round out the band. They delivered as much energy as their leader.

The band is approaching their 25th anniversary next year and they are celebrating early. Classic songs delivered included "Gel," "Shine," and "The World I Know." Roland mentioned that "Shine" is the most important song he has written. However, their catalog is filled with hits. It was a headlining performance.

3 Doors Down kept the vibe going after Collective Soul's show stopping performance.

The Mississippi 'homies' had their work cut out as they had to follow Collective Soul's superb set. Founding member and lead singer, Brad Arnold, took the stage wearing a dark tee shirt, jeans and a baseball cap. He was ready to rock and give the fans exactly what they wanted. That was hit after hit song. Arnold's voice is spot on with a raspy tone, same character and enthusiasm since the band's beginning.

Off to each side of the stage were American flags that denoted the band's obvious patriotism. Videos in the background were constantly showing various designs that kept the visual part of the show active.

3 Doors Down's show was all about the music. The band has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Their first three albums, The Better Life, Away From the Sun and Seventeen Days, are multiplatinum selling albums. The goodies included "Duck and Run," "When I'm Gone," and "Kryptonite." The band had the fans in the palm of their hands from start to finish.

The band has had its share of ups and downs with prescription drug issues, one leading to a hit and run accident. They have had to replace some of the original members as a result. That said they have a tight band that is up to giving fans a great show. The rest of the band now consists of Chet Roberts on lead guitar and some vocals, Chris Henderson on guitar and vocals, Justin Biltonen on bass and Greg Upchurch on drums.

Roberts and Henderson really added to the show. The duo guitarists showcased the electricity in the air with their head bobbing, guitar-strumming, foot-stomping attitude you'd expect from most rock-and-roll shows.

Whether it is Collective Soul or 3 Doors Down, one can never go wrong attending a concert featuring one (or better yet) both of these bands.
