Story and photos by Kate Seesholtz

Up and coming sibling duo The Belle Brigade showcased their California infused folk rock sound at Nashville's Mercy Lounge on Tuesday evening. Backed by a full band, Ethan and Barbara Gruska played songs off their recent self-titled debut.

The Belle Brigade had the crowd jumping and dancing inside the intimate venue, with songs such as "Sweet Louise" and "Shirt." Barbara gave her brother a chance to shine in the spotlight as she switched from the guitar to the drums. While the songs were catchy and upbeat, The Belle Brigade's vocals often drifted into a sharp wail, more reminiscent of emo rock than folk rock.

The duo closed out their set with "The Rusted Wheel" and debut single "Losers." With the recent surge of male/female duos hitting the music scene, only time will tell if The Belle Brigade has the staying power to come out on top.
