I was buying the new Erlend Oye CD "Unrest" at Soundwaves when I heard this CD (Ours-Precious) playing in the store and I was frozen because I thought I was listening to some old U2 song that I had missed, something between War and Unforgettable Fire, something that sounded really good. I bought it on the spot and have been listening to it every day for the last 3 days. You're correct in your observation that OURS' face seems to be more of a compostion of very strong likenesses to some great bands and their truly original vocalists, than one of pure self-identification. But I really enjoy the music. And I think when you consider how musicians like Thom Yorke (esp. between OK Computer and Insomniac) and Bono during the years of WAR and Unforgettable Fire, have defined themselves so distinctly that they render any catgeory inadequate, you'll find OURS is a breath of fresh memory if perhaps not of air. This fact, however, does not preclude t! he possibility that people like Thom Yorke, Bono, Freddie Mercury, and Jeff Buckley just might have created their own genre. This is how I see it: this band plays its own music and it is laden with some very lovely nostalgia of some very talented people and,so, how can that be a bad thing?
