John Stephens, famously known by his stage name: John Legend is a pianist, singer, and songwriter of soul music, born in 1978, in December 28. He has received a number of Grammy awards. Even before the launch of Legend's debut album, he has gained recognition because of his successful work with several famous performers like Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and many more.

John Legend was raised in Ohio. His mother was a seamstress while his father was a factor worker. As a kid, John loved playing the piano, which he usually did as part of the church choir. When he went to college in the University of Pennsylvania, Legend did some performing on the side as president of a pop acapella group, as well as a musical director.

Before John became a famous entertainer, he performed independently in night clubs. He eventually met Kanye West (thanks to Legend's roommate Devon Harris who was West's cousin) who was starting to get famous at that time. After that meeting, West and Legend began collaborating, and West later on offered Legend to work as an artist for GOOD Music, West's newly established label, which John said yes to.

In the latter part of 2004, John Legend made his debut album entitled Get Lifted, available to the public. His album featured other artists like Snoop Dog, and of course, Kanye West. There were two singles in the album and they both were included in the US and UK Charts: "Ordinary People" and "Used to Love U."

After two years, Legend released his sophomore album entitled Once Again with its lead single: "Save Room" and was produced by well-known people like will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas, Raphael Saadiq, etc. In October of 2008, Legend launched his third album Evolver. The album's first single: "Green Light" features Andre 3000 of OutKast and is said to be very different from Legend's other tracks as it was supposed to be more upbeat.
