Just in time to kick off the St. Patty's day weekend, two Irishmen led the night at Shank Hall. Opening act Brendan O'Shea, a native of Killarney Ireland now residing in New York City, began the evening by treating the audience to his original songs sung with a lovely smooth voice that inspired an audience member to shout out that his voice is velvety. He combined song with a bit of Irish humor warming the crowd up for the rock and roll to follow.

The six members of The Ike Reilly Assassination filled the stage both physically and with their energetic music. This Libertyville, Illinois band, led by Irish American singer/songwriter Ike Reilly, has a longstanding Milwaukee following. Reilly attended Marquette University here and has since played many shows in the area including most recently performing at the State Capital rallies last year in support of unions and as the opening act for Alejandro Escovedo at Summerfest 2011. While these performances were good, it is in the close atmosphere of a club that his gritty everyman storytelling rock plays best.

Reilly led a energetic and loose show playing many crowd favorites including "Girls In The Backroom," "It's Hard To Make Love To An American" and "When Irish Eyes Are Burning." The entire band along with the crowd were a party mood with the audience bantering back and forth with Reilly.

The band returned to the stage with O'Shea for a rousing laughter filled encore. Really loose by this time, the two acts came together and sang two Ewan Maccoll folk songs then finishing with Reilly's own "Commie Drive A Nova," while looking like they were having the time of their life. Old friends together on stage enjoying song, dance and laughter seems to be an apt way to kick of the Milwaukee St. Patty's celebration.
