Review and photos by Mary Andrews Chris Isaak returns with his rockabilly sound, his band, Silvertone, and his sense of humor once again to a packed house! Silvertone consists of Kenny Dale Johnson (drums), Rowland Salley (Guitar), and Hershel Yatovitz. Two of these members have been with Chris since his start in 1984. Its no surprise that they perform together like a well oiled machine and they have a lot of fun in the process!The sharp-dressed man started the show in high octane. The fourth song brought him into the audience and he gave away an autographed Freitlight guitar to contest winner, Shiela G. From there, he made his way up to the balcony and back downstairs down on the opposite aisle, sitting in a few laps along the way. (See photos below) Once Chris returned to the stage, he said, "That was so much fun giving away a guitar, let's give yours away" as he turned to Rowland Salley! One third of the show was used to showcase his last album, Beyond The Sun. This album is a two-disk collection of songs that Chris cut his teeth on when he was a youngster. These are songs from the mid '50s by Sun Recording artists Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. Elvis seemed to be the primary influence on the record and in the concert. The songs were a revival of the music that made these legends household names. The icing on the cake was, of course, Isaak's classic "Wicked Game" and "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing." Isaak is handsome, sexy, funny and entertaining! What more do you want in an entertainer? Judging by the audience reaction, Chris gave them everything and more! |
