Kelly Clarkson brought a cavalcade of pop stars on her Piece By Piece Tour that included Eric Hutchinson, Pentatonics, and Abi Ann. The Ak-Chin venue boasts a 20,000-person capacity that includes the rear lawn area behind the seating. Ms. Clarkson seemed to be swallowed up visually by the huge stage setting. However, Kelly Clarkson made up for what might have been lacking visually by her powerhouse voice and large personality and that is what it's all about anyway!

Clarkson is an artist who has managed to propel herself from the initial success of "American Idol" and reinvent her brand to soar above and beyond what was ever imagined. She did this by taking more creative control of her career by her third album.

Her latest album, Piece By Piece, was well represented throughout the set along with songs reaching back to 2003. It was obvious that the new songs are not as 'second nature' to Clarkson as the older more familiar material. This was evidenced by her botch of the title track of her new album. She took this in her stride and she blamed the flub on her "pregnancy brain." She admitted that she cries a lot on this tour because of her hormones. Her big, winning personality prevented any of the fans from caring about any mistakes she may have made. Clarkson's voice and incredible singing range were not at all affected by the pregnancy.

Ms. Clarkson is promoting new singers during this tour with an open mic portion of the show. The Phoenix show's artist was Jennifer Waris. Ms. Waris performed a rousing cover of Carrie Underwood's "Something In the Water." Clarkson also has been performing a fan requested song that varies from city to city. Tonight's song was a Selena Gomez cover of "The Heart Wants What It Wants."

Clarkson has a reputation of saying what's on her mind. This show was no exception and the fans have come to expect her candor. Clarkson said, "I wrote this song 'Tightrope' and it's really depressing. So you're welcome!"

Abi Ann started the evening with a short, lively performance, but there was no coverage for her set. Singer/songwriter Eric Hutchinson ferociously took the stage to hammer his portion of the show to an enthusiastic crowd. Hutchinson and his crack band rocked through a 30-minute set that had the audience up and dancing. Hutchinson has toured with Kelly Clarkson previously and pairs with Clarkson's effervescence well!

Pentatonix brought their own brand of pop music to a house full of faithful, enthusiastic fans that were immediately on their feet, clapping and dancing. This is an a cappella group that performs without any instrumentation. The fivesome are the band and they do it very well! The set contained mostly cover songs with two original songs, "Can't Sleep Love" and "On My Way Home." This group won 2011's third season of NBC's "The Sing Off." They now have 8 million subscribers on their YouTube channel and more than 1 billion cumulative views, the PTXofficial YouTube page is currently the 13th most subscribed-to music channel.

Kelly Clarkson and friends presented a great evening of fabulous pop music for this enthusiastic Phoenix crowd. The crowd reciprocated by loudly singing along with every song they knew. A final shout out goes to the background vocalists and musicians that were given an opportunity to display their talents during the show!
