New Zealand"s The Naked and the Famous (TNAF) made their second stop on their "In Rolling Waves" tour in Tucson last weekend! The new album is definitely the focus of the current tour. It is filled with newly penned emotional synth ballads that were written in Laurel Canyon outside of LA. The group went on hiatus after experiencing a highly successful freshman album and tour, garnering the hit single "Young Blood." The hiatus paid big dividends with this new, more mature album! It"s a winner!

My evening started by arriving early so that I was able to observe the sound and light check with the band, The Colourist. The Colourist are from Orange County, California and are headed by both Adam Castilla (vocals, guitar) and Maya Tuttle (drums, vocals). Kollin Johannsen (guitar, bass) and Justin Wagner (bass, Keyboards) complete the pop/rock formula of the band. It was Adam's birthday and a big Happy Birthday started the festivities of the show! The band did an eleven song, rousing opening set that got the near packed house rolling and wishing for more!

The Naked and the Famous took the stage and the young audience went CRAZY! The band has two lead vocalists: Alisa Xayalith (vocals/keyboards) and Thom Powers (vocals/guitar). They are both visually stunning! In fact, the whole show is visual feast, utilizing a choreographed light show! The other members of the band include: David Beadle (bass guitar), Jesse Wood (drums), and Aaron Short (keyboards). All of these elements made an extremely enjoyable concert experience. They finished the evening with an encore of "Young Blood." During the chorus, when Alisa sang "Fall back in love eventually." the audience gave back all the "yeah yeah yeahs" in the lyrics! The band left the stage and at the audience stood there ready for more. That"s the way you should always leave your fans - wanting more. If they bring this ensemble to your area, by all means don't miss them!
