Review by Andy Argyrakis

Spread across two DVDs, Queen's "Greatest Video Hits" comprises 33 short films spanning the early 1970s through late 1980s. Aside from being the first time these eras are combined in a single package, the music is remixed in 5.1 surround sound and the footage is restored, which are certainly massive incentives for fans who own any previous video collections to upgrade. The first disc encapsulates a slew of mega-hits, kicking off with "Bohemian Rhapsody," complete with its sea of faces flawlessly harmonizing together in swirling screen shots. Although it's just a straight forward studio performance, the thumping groove behind "Another One Bites The Dust" has no trouble carrying the clip, while the lusty "Bicycle Race" leaves little to the imagination. For the sports fans, "We Will Rock You" is especially fierce and furious when performed outdoors during a chilly, snow-filled scene, which is followed by the inevitable "We Are The Champions" taken from an extremely theatrical live concert.

Come disc two, the clips get much more creative and even the earliest MTV favorites still seem nothing short of ingenious today. "Radio Ga Ga" cleverly tips its hat towards the 1927 film "Metropolis" that inspired the song, the guys dress cheekily as girls doing housework during "I Want To Break Free," and later, switch places with look-a-like kids who magnetically mime their way through "The Miracle."

While there's certainly plenty to devour, it's downright inexplicable why the set ends at 1989 and songs from the band's last two albums (1991's "Innuendo" and 1995's posthumous "Made In Heaven") aren't included, especially considering the mere handful of clips would've likely been able to fit. Though the oversight is certainly not enough to discourage a purchase, it short changes the comprehensiveness of an otherwise exceptional anthology.
