Simeon Ziff, San Diego, CA 08/07/04 artist: KISS Review: I must disagree with Andy's Argyrakis's review of the recent KISS concert. Though I didn't see this particular show, I have attended at least one concert during each tour since their reunion in '96. In actuality, because of ongoing problems with Ace and Peter, they've had to replace them for this tour. The result is a band which is very strong musically. The two weakest links are now gone. Eric Singer is reknowned as one of the best rock drummers in the business. They're doing songs which they haven't done for years and probably couldn't have done without Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer. As for not aging gracefully, most guys their age simply don't even come close to displaying their level of fitness and energy. They never stop moving, entertaining, and giving 100%. That's a lot more than I can say for some bands which leave you wondering why you didn't just buy their cd's instead of wasting it on a boring concert. Also, Tommy and Eric aren't old by any means. Yes, some of it is "formula", I will give you that, but it's entertainment at its best. Andy, obviously millions of people in the world are experiencing and enjoying something that you're not picking up on. Paul Stanley has one of the greatest voices in rock and is one of the few to actually get better with age. His highly acclaimed as the lead in "Phantom of the Opera" in Toronto gives testament to this. To label them as you did isn't justified. "Bad Bands" do not stand the test of time as KISS has managed to do. I saw Kiss for the first time in 78, and as a fanatical 14 year old (my bedroom completely covered in Kiss stuff) I was blown away. I have since been to 7 or 8 shows in several different venues. While the sensory overload of pyros and plasma monitors were certainly impressive, the talent, such as it is, is fading. Paul's voice/vocals are really "showing" the milage of 25+ years of belting out some of my favorite songs. The music is not as seamless as it once was and it sounded like a garage band in need of practice. I loved the show for all the nostalga and pagentry and the warm fuzzy it gave me, but that will probably be my last.. At 50+ years old someone should tell them that spandex is no longer their friend. Paul should put a shirt on and Gene should demand to never sing the "harmony" part of "God Gave Rock & Roll To You." It was just painful. I felt bad for him.. I will fondly remember my favorite band and some! of the best nights I had as a teenager. In order to do that I will try to forget most of last night. Meryl Schumaker, Menahga, MN 08/03/04 artist: System of a Down Review: System of a Down's "Steal This Album" is a beautiful combination of musically interesting jams and politically-driven rock, and the band definately deserves credit for being the only band (that I know of) for acknowledging and keeping alive the visions and wisdom of Abbie Hoffman. This was a much-needed breath of fresh air for me and my like-minded friends, as in the political status we have to endure at this point and time, it is inspiring and uplifting. As a musician, I am often over-critical of the "heavy-metal" bands that I hear nowadays, but "Steal This Album" was unique, enjoyable, and no doubt groovy. That's about all I will say for now about the album and the band, and if you don't agree with me, well then, you can just ram it up your poop chute (as Frank Zappa said oh so long ago). Her acting is awesome because she chooses so many perfect movies to be in. Moonstruck? Amazing... she totally pulled off the whole Italian accent. The Witches of Eastwick?
