Matt Soden, Washington, DC 05/24/05 artist: Gang of Four Review: Your review of the Go4 show was spot-on. I saw them this past Friday the 20th at the 9:30 CLub and it was truly amazing. The sound was fantastic, the set was tight, the songs well-selected. No complaints. The Pixies in 1991 used to be "The Best Concert I've Ever Seen". LMP's music, has come a long way from her debut album. i do not see any "pseudo music" here. it is as real as you can get. I highly recomend this album, for anyone who likes to FEEL music, relate to it, and even heal from it. Lisa is a non-conformist, and an original. you and critics like you, need to stop introducing your articles with the same old BS of "elvis's daughter" and see her as her own person. she has well established that. she is an individual, with talent, and uniqueness. as for the song "shine" with Pink, there was no mcrophone battle going on. there was mutual respect and a nice blend of two artists coming together and intorducing us all to a nice arrangement of harmonies. LMP has a ton of talent, but critics will never allow her to shine, without comparing her to her father. How can one diss the Sex Pistol's guitarist. I personally find this CD better than the first one. It is a slap in the face to good music everywhere when you write such things. Songs such as Thanx and Idiot in which you thrown down the drain, well they just happen to be the fans favorite. We petition for Idiot to be the next single and it is the most requested song at her shows. If you don't like it fine, but you better give her some damn credit for establishing a great fan base and going gold with her first album without the help of Elvis fans who are just curious. Her name might have helped a bit in the beginning, but you can't maintain fans off of a last name unless you are damn good. Can you sing? can you write? Could you make a better album. I'll start that way because I needed to get that off my chest. Now you might be asking yourself why I would say such a thing. Allow me to explain. First, one member changed between instruments, alternating between his sax and flute. Sure, Mr. Lopez went between his guitar and some effects processing gadgetry but his guitar was always present, wasn't it? Secondly, you refer to screaming on the second album. There is almost none. If you have qualms with Bixler-Zavala's voice (which you are certainly allowed to have, but please justify it. You know, for the sake of your readers.) perhaps you should consult anyone with even brief musical education qua vocal range. Thirdly and lastly, because I don't think you should be writing reviews for anyone and I don't want to waste to much time on you, you insult the crowd. What self respecting reviewer does that unless the crowd interrupts the performanc!e? Previously in your review you talk about The Mars Volta being pretentious and then you go on to insult a crowd that you know practically nothing about. Did you interview anyone at the show to come up with your statement that what was disclosed passed over their heads? Where are you getting that perception from? Seeing and hearing him LIVE is unbelieveable. You simply can not believe you are hearing something so beautiful. Something so beautiful it makes you cry, scream, gasp, and yell for more. I didn't want it to end. He was wonderful. I had just flown in from also seeing this concert in Atlanta on the 18th of Dec which was equally as wonderful if not more because I was lucky enough to get 2nd row seats in Atlanta and during one of the songs(What Are You Doing New Years Eve?)he sings, he actually stopped in front on me and sang a line right to me. Needless to say I was thrilled. While at the Chicago threater I was seated in between to other ladies, one on my left was a 20 something year old, who had just graduated from college and the one on my right who I am now dear friends with is 50 something. These two lovely ladies were crying. Crying because th! at's what Clay's voice does to us. He makes us feel everything he feels as he sings his song. It's amazing. I can't wait to see him in the new Juke Box tour. Bring it on Clay! I'll be there. Clay Aiken is a favorite of mine, but the closest I could get to his Joyful Noise tour was on the internet. Downloads are wonderful and so was Clay's show. What a talented young man!!
