Caption and photos by Andy Argyrakis The days of Coldplay playing Chicago clubs like Metro or the Aragon Ballroom are long gone, but even with the jump towards arenas on the last few tours, the beloved Brits never lost sight of staging an intimate show. Though there were plenty of swirling lights, confetti bursts and production frills during its first of two shows at the United Center, an exposed circular stage that allowed 360 degrees of clear sightlines, coupled with a lengthy cat walk down the center of the venue, helped Chris Martin and company get closer than most at that level.As the band delivered several cuts from last year's "Mylo Xyloto" (Capitol) mixed with choice alt-pop hits from the past decade, it was apparent Coldplay is well on its way to becoming the biggest rock band in the world (though it could be argued its already arrived at that destination). Openers Marina and the Diamonds may have scored the support slot of a lifetime, but its bubbly bursts of indie pop and new wave suggest the troupe's well on its way towards worldwide recognition in the not too distant future.
