A recipe for happy feet
By John Halverson
February 2, 2011

I'm not a rapper. Can't carry a tune. Can't dance.

I'm just an old white boy from Wisconsin who likes good music.

My daughter and I grew up listening to music together. The Young Rascals on the way to dance class. Marvin Gaye on the way to basketball. The Temptations. Van Morrison. Aretha. Janis. The car shook like jello, bad moods became good ones, good ones became better. Her mother handled spellin' an 'rithamatic. I took care of the really important stuff...

So now it's her turn. We went to Dave Matthews last year and I became a believer. And just today my girl, now a senior in college, sent me a great u-tube video link--Greg Street-Good Day ft. Nappy Roots. Just can't help from passing it along. It lifts the spirits, makes for dancing feet and good vibes.

Sing along with me...

"You know today I just woke up and I said you know instead of waitin' on a good day waitin' around through up's and down's waitin on something to happen I just say...we're gonna have a good day...we're gonna have a good day and ain't nobody gotta cry today cause ain't nobody gonna die to u save that trouble for another day.

"We're gonna have a good day ..not to worry bout what nobody say I'm still above ground that's the reason I pray ...sitin' in a hell of a place got my stunner shades on a grin on my face ...We might as well do what the children sayin' take a day off hit park ... but still we all bound forever in a day the choice you make is really all fine...We're gonna have a good day..."

Yeah, I know. This boy can't write in a way that swings like the real thing. So try it out in real time, with your feet dancing beneath your desk. Greg Street-Good Day ft. Nappy Roots. Youtube. Do it.

Gotta get back to work now. Don't tell my bosses I'm having a good day. They may not understand. But my daughter does-and some days that, and the music, is all that matters.
