Review and photos by Matt Schwenke Nearing the end of a lengthy tour stretch, the Polyvinyl Records and Champaign, Ill.-based indie foursome Headlights headlined a four-band bill at Bay View's newest spot for live music, the Bay View Brew Haus.On tour in support of their third release, Wildlife, the Headlights put their darker sound on display most of the evening while dropping in a few tunes from their earlier and more upbeat albums. Vocalist and keyboardist Erin Fein's soft and soothing voice held sway in the brooding "Dead Ends," while pulsing rhythm, keys and guitar lead the way in "Secrets" and "Telephones." Opening up for Headlights was Milwaukee's own Celebrated Workingman, which, along with some new material, featured lead singer/guitarist Mark Waldoch singing a cappella through a megaphone from a table in the crowd to start the show. |
