Story and photos by Dave VaculaMotorhead is an iconic rock trio that rock's as loud and as mean as anyone in the music biz today. The band consists of Phil Campbell on guitars, Mikkey Dee on drums and the true godfather of rock - the ever visual Lemmy Kilmister on bass & vocals. The band brought THE WORLD IS YOURS TOUR to The Rave in Milwaukee last week to a small, but overly supportive group of fans. As the iconic frontman/songwriter Lemmy always states at the beginning of each live performance - "We are Motorhead - we play rock & roll!" His unmistaken hoarse and world weary voice and his Rickenbacker bass both scream together in soul-searching testaments. The intensity, aggression and anger are as powerful and chaotic as a runaway freight train.
Loud & proud, Motorhead's approach has remained the same over the bands 35 year career. Their appreciation of early rock is undeniable as well as their influence on countless other bands. With their hard, loud and faster than lightning rock anthems they have produced a beautifully sinister canon of music. Motorhead's lyrics typically cover such savory topics such as war, good vs. evil, abuse of power, sex, substance abuse, and life on the road. The band ripped into "Back inLine," "Metropolis," "Over the Cop," "One Night Stand," "Rock Out," "Thousand Names," "Change is Better" and of course the bombastic "Ace of Spades."
Motorhead are of a mindset, a belief actually, that the way to live life, a way to both survive and beat a society that sometimes seems intent on trying to grind you down is to play by your own rules. Which it seems is why Motorhead have chosen now to release a hell raising, rebel rousing, rock 'n roll statement known as The World Is Yours album.
Go listen and see for yourself. I guarantee that your little world will suddenly become a better, if not, darker place.
