When I heard they were touring together it seemed like the perfect concert in the making. They have both been around for the same amount of time. Bon Jovi has just been in the spotlight for longer. That doesn't take anything away from the Goo Goo Dolls though I have seen them in concert and not only was the music incredible live but the love of playing it was obvious. Do your homework next time. ??? 03/05/03 Review: While it seems like you enjoyed the concert I have to disagree with the assessment. Bon Jovi really is not vintage 80s. Other than Jon's sizeble sex appeal they are all substance. It's a good old fashioned Jersey rock band. If you really listen they are a lot more Springsteen than Motley Crew - is that vintage 80s? I've seen a lot of great concerts and seldom does a band get and keep a stadium size crowd on their feet for nearly 3 hours. The best thing about Bon Jovi is that they love what they do and Jon is pure showman. Combine Richie's guitar with a persona that can shake up a crowd with arch of his eyebrow and you've got a great band. If he weren't so damn hot I really think they would get a lot more respect. However, there are some great songs on the new album Bounce like Everyday, Hook Me Up, Misunderstood, and The Distance. The Distance played live was ten times better than the album version which is also a great arrangement. I would agree that playing The Right Side of Wrong is a mistake in this line up of hits. I understand that the band needs a break and it allows David Bryan an opportunity to showcase his talents as a keyboardist. They should be playing other hits from past albums that really don't get the time of day. Such as: I Believe from Keep the Faith, My Guitar Lies Bleeding in my Arms from These Days, which is an incredible showcase of lyrics and musicianship, it definitely evokes emotion good or bad, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up for whatever meanings it relates to you. I also would love to hear probably the best "B" side song ever, Edge of a Broken Heart. I imagine we may see that song played live when they tour behind their box set next year. Saying that the band catches lightning in a bottle with older hits may have some truth in it because it makes up the soundtrack to our lives. Like smelling a food that reminds us of dinner at grandma's house or hearing a Bon Jovi song like I'll Be There For You that you played for your girlfriend back in high school that made her fall in love with you. The band finds a way to keep breathing life into their hits such as letting! Richie sing I'll Be There For You. Summing up a Bon Jovi show would be as easy as saying it is an experience. Sure you will always be wanting more after getting your butt kicked for two and a half hours, but that is what makes a band great. Having so much to offer is what sets the Legends apart from the wannabe's. The Rolling Stones have put out Albums in the Nineties and even though there may be a few songs that are great there will never be a replacement for Satisfaction. The same hold true to Bon Jovi you can't really come up with Wanted Dead Or Alive or Livin' On A Prayer again but, It's My Life and Everyday sure seam to find away of being a new chapter in the ever evolving BON JOVI. They have been compared to so many different bands; Alice In Chains, Staind, Creed, 3 Doors Down, even TOOL At least they are diverse enough to be compared to so many different groups, and not just one. The vocals are strong, the songwriting is strong, the guitars are full and melodic, the bass and drums sound great, and the production is definitely as good on the same level as Pearl Jam "Ten", Alice In Chains "Dirt" and Def Leppard "Pyromania . If you listen to this CD a few times, you will probably like it more and more. You will also not be able to compare a song like "Elastic" to anything on the radio today.
