EVER!!! Nick, LG.WI 07/11/03 artist: Foo Fighters in Milwaukee Review: To be honest, Foo Fighters have always been an awesome band. From 1995's "Big Me" all the way to "Times Like These" from the new record One by One, you knew there was something great about them. And on June 30th, 2003 they proved that they could still kick ass. Opening act Pete Yorn gets the crown warmed up for the plethora of audible blessings we have yet to behold. At 9:30 all lights go off and with a spontaneous orgasmic uproar Dave Grohl smashes into "All My Life." After that the ball really gets rolling. The Foos deliver hit after hit, with "My Hero" in which you see Taylor Hawkins drumming really shine through, "Times Like These" and "Have it all." With that your eyes and ears are fixated on what amazing musical phenomenon your going to hear next. You realize that they can do no wrong as they play "Learn To Fly" and "The One' from the Orange County soundtrack. But the evening doesn't go without any education. Some one from the crowd throws a glow stick and Dave catches it. He proceeds to lecture us about the dangers of glow sticks and how they are associated with raves not rock concerts, and that he prefers the old school lighters. At that point you look around and see hundreds of lighters being held high as the Foos break into "Up In Arms" which is followed by "Enough Space" and "Stacked Actors." The thing I like about a good live band is if they can alter the songs so they're different than on the album. With "Stacked Actors" they did just that. The solo drones on and on if a furry of mind wrenching power chords, which is just indescribably awesome for a live band for me. Dave takes a break to tell us about a video they made for the next song. He tells us that MTV won't play it and the crowd boos and screams. "Low" is played along with "Hey, Jonny Park!" and "Monkey Wrench." Everyone pulls out their lighters again as the Foos play the bittersweet "Tired" and finish up with "This is a Call." But the crowd hasn't had enough yet, we wait for 3 short minutes and they come back out to give us more. "You guys really had to pull my leg for this," Grohl says as they play "Aurora" and "Everlong." Which in my humble opinion is a great ending to a great show.
