Story and photos by Jen Bronenkant Sarah McLachlan shared the stage with Lilith Fair friends Butterfly Boucher and Melissa McClelland in front of a full house at The Riverside Theater. While McLachlan was the star of the show, each singer got her turn in the spotlight and backed the others during the rest of the show. The sharing of music and stories among the three women added a warm personal touch and diversity to the evening.McLachlan's beautiful voice filled the venue with a mix of old favorites including "I Will Remember You," "Possession" and "Adia" along with new work from her latest album Laws of Illusion. Boucher added her rock flair with four of original songs. McClelland, in spite of having a cold, gave an impressive performance. She sang two original songs and also teamed up with her husband, and McLachlan bandmate, Luke Doucet to sing his song "Broken One." McLachlan opened up to the audience by inviting the them to leave questions for her at the t-shirt stand which she answered during each of her sets. Her honest and entertaining answers contributed to the very intimate feel of the show. For an encore, she finished out the night with her melancholy hit "Angel" followed by crowd sing-a-long favorite "Ice Cream." Enthusiastic and engaging, McLachlan created a memorable evening for her Milwaukee audience. |
