U2's 360 Tour at Soldier Field - Sept. 13, 2009 |
Story and photos by Andy Argyrakis In fact, tour staff and local crew rolled into the carnivorous stadium last Thursday in advance of a Tuesday, July 5 concert that finds U2 reprising its 360-degree set after first kicking off its North American tour at the very same venue two summers ago. Though the 90 foot structure boasting a center pylon reaching 150 feet may look familiar to faithful fans who took in the previous leg of the show, Evans promised plenty of changes. Amongst the facelifts this time through are updated video projections during certain songs, which will consume a cylindrical video screen made up of 500,000 pixels, 320,000 fasteners, 30,000 cables and 150,000 machined pieces! Evans also promised a shuffled up set list, which has recently gravitated towards the Achtung Baby album (turning 20 this year), along with additional hits and album cuts that weren't performed during the last visit. Besides getting a first crack at the stage set up, the afternoon with Evans also included a revelation that U2's hard at work on its next studio CD, will be commemorating the Achtung Baby anniversary (presumably with remastered editions) and also finds Bono and The Edge tweaking their brand new Broadway musical rendition of "Spider-Man." Even amidst all the activities, the Dublin foursome remains committed to serving up plenty of spectacle on this truly final installment of the record breaking 360 Tour. U2 returns to Chicago's Soldier Field on Tuesday, July 5. For tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.com and for additional tour dates visit www.u2.com/tour. |
