Review and photos by Mary Andrews Godsmack "saluted" the crowd with fist pumpin' metal on the last leg of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival. Rock festival season is just about over and the KFMA Fall Ball gave Tucson a non-stop nine and a half hour rock music experience not soon to be forgotten.Seether, Buckcherry, Devil Wears Prada, Pop Evil, Escape the Fate, These Raven Skies, and Tattered kept the momentum going all day through the hard driving heat. Each band gave Godsmack a strong set earlier in the day. Seether ripped through 45 minutes of its brand of mainstream rock, with front man Shaun Morgan in particularly strong voice. Buckcherry's front man, Josh Todd, delivered his usual passionate and energetic set. The scorched crowd renewed their high energy when Godsmack took the stage with the first pyro boom. The band started with "1000HP" and the set was relentless for a near 90 minutes. There was a good blend of the old and new music. "1000hp" marks the first album of new music in four years for the Boston quartet. The new music has clearly energized the band and their fans. The number of fans singing along to the new music was testimony to their acceptance of the new songs. KFMA's promotion of the new music does not hurt the public's adoption of the music. Sully screamed at the crowd, "Pay attention. When this band kicks back in full force, I want to see this entire floor lose their damn mind! You hear me? No bullshit. If you are not in for this, I want you to move to the side. We're gonna take this back to the days of Canterra and Antrrax. This is your responsibility right now. I want you to create one big giant fuckin circle, from the front row back all the way to my right. When we come back in I want to see this entire fucking crowd to move their fuckin arms. . . I want to see what Tucson is made of." Tucson did not let him down. Erna did not forget the old music and delivered favorites like "The Enemy" "Awake," "Speak" and "Voodoo." Sully played percussion and drums during a drum duel with Shannon Larkin that kept the crowd alive. Toward the end of the set, Sully toasted the Tucson crowd by throwing out cups of beer challenging the fans to catch the cups without spilling it. The pyrotechnic-laden set was great fun for all and the crowd lived up to the name of the tour and roared with a shitload of energy! |
