Story and photos by Jennifer Bronenkant O.A.R. (Of A Revolution) jammed with a large group of fans in an energetic performance at the Eagles Ball Room on Friday night. The set combined old favorites with four numbers from their latest album "King: Taking On The World Today," "The Last Time," "Heaven" and "Gotta Be Wrong Sometimes." This latest album was born of a year change and struggle for the group, including leaving their long time label Atlantic Records and some time away from music while lead singer Marc Roberge supported his wife while she fought a successful battle with cancer. The new upbeat music with its feel good messages is more pop than their classic work but the crowd seemed to groove along to these songs almost as much as the old favorites. The band ended the night with "That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker" while the audience enthusiastically showered the band with playing cards. This party left many in the audience dancing long after the last beat was played.Opening act Stephen Kellog and the Sixers, affectionally known to fans as SK6ERS, started the night of with a rousing rock and roll set. Their modern take on classic rock made for a great live experience. It would be wonderful to see them as a headliner the next time they come through beer town. |
