Caption and photos by Andy Argyrakis When Red Hot Chili Peppers announced a Grand Rapids homecoming for singer Anthony Kiedis at the Van Andel Arena, tickets unsurprisingly got snatched up in an instant. And even though the band's returned to the River City many times before, this electrifying stop on "The Getaway" World Tour found the alternative rockers sounding hotter than ever. Following a funky introductory jam by bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, the local hero led adrenaline-stacked cuts such as "Can't Stop," "Dani California" and "The Zephyr Song," paving the way for an evening of past and present classics, all accompanied by a mind-blowing production.Red Hot Chili Peppers appear at Summerfest in Milwaukee on Jun. 28 and United Center in Chicago on Jun. 30 and Jul. 1.
