The Gigantour Tour rolled into Milwaukee last Saturday evening with Volbeat, Lacuna Coil, Megadeth and special guests Motorhead to a full house at the Eagles Ballroom. As Lemmy (lead singer of Motorhead) always states with his unmistaken hoarse and world weary voice at the beginning of each live performance "We are Motorhead and we play rock & roll!!!" - and that is indeed the truth. Motorhead's music is one of simplistic beauty, it's real - it's what rock n' roll is supposed to be. With Phil Campbell on guitars, Mikkey Dee on drums and Lemmy Kilmister singer/songwriter and bass - Motorheads approach has remained the same over their entire career. They play what they enjoy and know best - a true appreciation for early rock n' roll. Lemmy's Rickenbacker bass screams with as much intensity, aggression and anger as a freight train cutting through a dirty old town with rusty rails.

This trio has inspired countless other bands throughout the world of rock with their loud and faster rock anthems (which still remains some of the hardest and fastest music ever recorded). Motorhead's lyrics typically cover such varied topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, sex, substance abuse and life on the road. Some of the set list from Saturday nights performance were "Know How to Die," "Stay Clean," and "Chase Is Better." Also performed were crowd favorites "Over the Top" and especially the menacing "Sing the Blues" with an out-of-this-world drum solo by Mikkey Dee that took the crowd into an even higher level of worship. Later in the set was of course "Overnight Sensation" and "Ace of Spades." Motorhead are a belief, a way of life and a mindset to both survive and beat a society that seems intent on trying to grind you down. Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey make up one helluva of an iconic trio.

Sorry to say that Megadeth's entire set was a huge crowd disappointment. Their performance from start to finish was troubled with very bad sound system problems. I've seen Megadeth many, many times and they always put on a kick-ass show. My heart went out to the band, the fans and the crew trying to fix the issue.
